A revolutionary building technology that creates stronger, more efficient, and healthier structures
Insulated Concrete Forms (ICFs) are a type of construction technology that involves stacking foam blocks, pouring concrete into the gaps, and using reinforcing steel to create a strong, energy-efficient, and durable structure.
Resembling a large Lego block, ICFs are lightweight foam blocks made from hypoallergenic EPS hard foam (expanded polystyrene) that are stacked together to make up the foundation and walls. Once assembled into the desired shape, they are filled with concrete making the building incredibly strong and energy efficient.
Did you know? A study by the Portland Cement Association shows that over the lifespan of a house, ICF has a reduced CO2 burden vs. wood-frame construction by 220,460 lbs.
The Problem
Traditional wood-frame homes have dozens of air leak points. Hot air escapes in winter, and cool air escapes in summer—forcing your HVAC to work overtime.
Common leak points include: attic hatches, recessed lights, duct registers, plumbing vents, sill plates, and more. These leaks account for 20-30% of your energy costs.
The Solution
ICF's concrete core acts as a thermal battery. It absorbs heat during the day and releases it at night—naturally stabilizing indoor temperatures without your HVAC running constantly.
This "thermal flywheel" effect delays peak temperatures by up to 6 hours and reduces temperature swings by up to 14°F compared to wood frame construction.
Verified Performance
Every ICF home can be verified with a blower door test—a diagnostic tool that measures exactly how airtight your building envelope is.
ICF homes routinely test at less than 1 air change per hour at 50 pascals (ACH50), compared to 5-10+ ACH50 for typical wood frame construction. This means:
R-24 insulation with virtually zero air infiltration. Save up to 50% on heating and cooling.
10x stronger than lumber-framed homes. Survives hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes.
Up to 4-hour fire rating. ICF foam self-extinguishes and will not burn.
STC ratings of 50-55 mean only 1/8 as much sound penetrates vs wood frame.
No formaldehyde, asbestos, or VOCs. Prevents mold and radon infiltration.
Concrete and foam are unappealing to termites, carpenter ants, and rodents.
Reduces CO2 burden by 220,460 lbs vs wood-frame. Made from recycled materials.
Concrete requires little maintenance and stands up to nature. Built to last.

Estimate Your Savings
Based on Texas A&M, HUD, and Nudura field studies
How we calculate: Based on 40% HVAC reduction (Texas A&M: 17-19%, tight envelope bonus: +10-20%) plus 8% air sealing benefit. HVAC = 55% of Texas energy bills. Premium at $4/sqft (industry avg $2-6).
Does not include: insurance discounts (5-25%), increased resale value, reduced maintenance, or HVAC downsizing savings.
The Data Behind ICF
Real-world performance data from independent studies and local projects
Measured cooling performance of two-story ICF homes in North Texas. Field data (not modeling) showed ICF reduces cooling energy by 17-19% compared to wood frame.
Comprehensive U.S. Dept. of Housing study found 20-25% energy savings in field comparisons. Also documented ICF home surviving Guadalupe River flood while wood homes were destroyed.
Whole-wall thermal studies confirm 58% better effective R-value vs wood frame. Texas Tech debris impact testing verified tornado resistance up to 250 mph.
Industry analyses show 32% less cooling and 44% less heating energy use. Combined with tight envelope, total savings reach 30-50%.
Texas's first all-ICF school achieved EPA Energy Star score of 99 and lowest energy cost in district at $0.43/sqft. Independent Oncor benchmarking confirmed near-net-zero performance.
2,548 sqft home with ICF walls + interior safe room. ICF installation completed in just 10 days. Won national award for affordable, energy-efficient design.
4,400 sqft custom home rebuilt after 2017 hurricane with 6,700 sqft of ICF walls. Designed for disaster resistance and energy efficiency. 2020 ICF Builder Awards finalist.
State-of-the-art school using Nudura ICF for walls. Continuous insulation reduced HVAC loads while providing consistent indoor temperatures for Texas's hot summers.
